Cheryl N. Harrison, Burlington, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
When a distress telephone line was established in Burlington in 1976, Cheryl Harrison was one of its first volunteers. Through years of devoted and active service she has ensured its continued success. She is also the main support of many other voluntary organizations, including the Burlington Teen Centre, which she co-founded in 1991. In addition, Mrs. Harrison volunteers at a public school, canvasses for a number of charities, and also takes the time to run widow support groups and to serve on the Burlington Bereavement Council.
