Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

Since 1963, Mrs. Pat Murakami has been involved in the operation of the Tillicum activity centre for people with mental and physical disabilities and has assisted countless people in leisure and recreation activities, as well as in crisis situations. A volunteer teacher's aide for more than twenty years, she also actively supported children with learning disabilities in their studies and other aspects of school life. In addition to her untiring efforts to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities, Mrs. Murakami has volunteered over the years with other groups, such as the local Blood Donor Clinic and Minor Hockey Association, and is presently involved with subsidized housing projects.
