Dorothy Orr, Brooks, Alberta
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
A retired nurse, Dorothy Orr has been involved in many community projects contributing to the health and care of others, from hypertension and blood donor clinics, to the initiation of an ambulance service. She has chaired the Brooks and District Health Foundation's "Breath of Spring" fund-raising campaign and organized a Celebrity Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Brooks Health Centre's Cardiac Rehabilitation Program. In addition, she has been involved in local sports clubs and organized and raised funds for the Alberta Senior Curling Championships hosted in Brooks in 1997.
