Monty Mazin, Downsview, Ont.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Monty Mazin has followed his grandmother's advice to "walk through life as a decent, caring, compassionate humanitarian". After assisting children with physical disabilities in Montréal, he became active in Toronto's Jewish community, serving for four years as Mayor and Chair of the Jerusalem Pavilion during the Metro International Caravan. He went on to organize and raise funds for major projects for Rotary International and to serve as Chairman of GEMS of Hope, an organization that assists people in need in the developing world. In his spare time, Mr. Mazin calls bingo for seniors, collects clothes for children in need and runs a Christmas kettle for the Salvation Army.
