June Curry, Montréal, Que.
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
For thirty years, June Curry has volunteered at the Montreal General Hospital. In the course of these 9,000 hours, she has photographed newborn babies, worked in the gift shop, visited patients without families, provided information and directions to patients and visitors, baked for the annual Christmas fair, and served patients, staff and visitors in the hospital coffee shop. As a young mother, she helped with the PTA, her daughters' ballet classes and canvassed for the Salvation Army. Now that her husband is in a nursing home, Mrs. Curry has become a daily visitor at the home as well as at the hospital, bringing her love and support to her husband and the other patients.
