Governor General's Caring Canadian Award

A Lions Club member for over 40 years and a Knight of Columbus for over 30 years, Nicolas Shaigec has served in many capacities in both organizations. He has shown others by example and motivated them to be involved in events that helped finance many charitable causes. He heartily supported the Boy Scouts and coached young people in baseball, hockey and curling. As a member of the parish council, he often spearheaded activities such as hampers for poor families at Christmas, and toy and clothes collections for developing countries. Mr. Shaigec's community has benefited from his natural leadership and his contribution in a great variety of local initiatives.
