Doug Rowland volunteered with The Salvation Army for 25 years in leadership roles and helped guide them through a program of hospital reorganization. He is a founding member of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians and the International Election Monitors Institute, serving as president of the Board of Directors. He currently volunteers with the Friends of the Canadian War Museum and as a museum guide.
