Ann Leggatt, Dollard des Ormeaux, Québec
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Ann Leggatt is a dedicated volunteer. For seven years in the 1980s, Mrs. Leggatt was involved in coordinating an outreach program at the Shawbridge Detention Center in Prévost, Quebec. Each week, she spent countless hours organizing activities for teenagers at the detention center. A few years later, she was instrumental in developing the Roxboro Youth Services Committee in Montréal, providing support to young people in crisis. Through her involvement with AMCAL Family Services, she established and coordinated supervised living arrangements for teenagers. Mrs. Leggatt helped establish the Pierrefonds Community Centre where she is still an active volunteer, helping school children with their assignments, participating in the Young Mothers Program and organizing special events.
