Frank Monroe, Greenfield Park, Quebec
Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Frank Monroe began entertaining the troops during WWII, and is still lifting the spirits of hospitalized veterans with his musical variety shows close to sixty years later. He has also helped people who are disadvantaged in his community through his work with youth groups, halfway houses for prison inmates, substance abuse programs, the Old Brewery Mission, seniors' homes, the Shriner's Hospital, and a host of other good causes. As a hands-on volunteer, a chair and director of associations, a fund-raiser, and an entertainer, Mr. Monroe has devoted much of his time to voluntary service.
