Governor General's Caring Canadian Award
Arlene Martin has been devoted to helping her neighbours since the 1950s. Her caring commitment includes volunteering for several health programs with the Peace Country Health Board. The entire community of Beaverlodge benefits from her volunteer work with tourism, the cultural centre, the library and with organizations such as the I.O.D.E., local hospitals and the food bank. She has also taught Sunday school and regularly visits neighbours in need and shut-ins and offers whatever help she can to grieving families. For Mrs. Martin, helping others is a way of life, and her cheerful and dependable assistance is invaluable to the families in her town.
