A well-respected Winnipeg lawyer, he is best known as an advocate for environmental conservation and sustainable development. His exemplary legal work, in particular in the Rafferty-Alameda dam case and as Counsel to the Government of Manitoba, has laid the groundwork for much of our federal environmental assessment law. Through his varied and widespread community involvement, he has made an outstanding contribution to the protection of the environment. He established organizations such as the Wildlife Foundation of Manitoba and the popular Fort Whyte Centre, a model for environmental education.
