This McGill University professor is the founding director of the Centre for Bioethics of the Clinical Research Institute of Montreal, one of the first centres of its kind in Canada. He has done a great deal to ensure that concerns relating to ethics have a place in the medical world, as well as raising public awareness of the ethical dilemmas stemming from recent technological breakthroughs in the field of cutting-edge medicine. In so doing, he has led several Canadian institutions to form their own ethics committee.
