As Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Senior Cardiologist at St. Michael's Hospital, he has contributed significantly to the reduction of cardiovascular death rates across the country. He initiated the Emergency Cardiac Care System in Canada, and created the first cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training program in Ontario. He was also instrumental in developing the province's 911 emergency response system. In addition, he played a key role in the successful evolution of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario. His leadership and innovative fundraising methods transformed this Foundation into one of the most successful in North America.
