He is an authority on geotechnical engineering and an ambassador of Canadian know-how. Widely consulted on projects throughout the world, he is past President of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering. Canada's foremost practitioner of geotechnique, he is past President and Vice-President of several of our national engineering institutes and societies. An inspiring educator for the past 40 years, he has been honoured by the University of Alberta with the title University Professor Emeritus.
