He is known as Saskatoon's most progressive and popular mayor whose major accomplishment was the revitalization of the downtown area. As a Senator, he was active in a wide range of activities and led the 1981 Canadian delegation to Zimbabwe for the International Conference on Reconstruction. Well-respected within his community, he is a generous patron and promoter of the arts and a supporter of numerous charitable organizations such as the Canadian Kidney Foundation.
