He is known internationally as the co-inventor of one of the scientific wonders of the modern world. The electron microscope has opened up the tiniest corners of the universe to the scrutiny of medical and space researchers, biologists, chemists, geologists and a multitude of others. Having dedicated his career to promoting its use in hospitals, universities and research centres, he also encourages young people to pursue careers in science and has contributed generously to a scholarship fund for students in his hometown of Brantford, Ontario.
