The foresight and determination he showed while serving as Mayor of Dartmouth helped to shape the economic rejuvenation of the region and secure a broader tax-base through development. The Burnside Industrial Park initiative, which became a reality in the 1960s, is now home to 1,200 businesses, representing fifty per cent of all commercial space in Atlantic Canada. His voluntary community activities span five decades and include service as a Governor of St. Mary's University, and as a Director of the Canadian Heart Fund.
