On a personal and professional level, John Honderich has spoken out for those whose voices are often not heard. As publisher of the Toronto Star, he wrote articles and oversaw editorial content that drew public and government attention to issues such as child and spousal abuse, youth unemployment, racism and health care. He has been involved in many social causes, including the promotion of literacy. As well, he loaned office space and resources to advocacy groups and, in his role as a director of his family's holding company, has supported numerous charitable organizations.
