A field scientist and conservationist, she is a respected defender of endangered species. From her research centre in the Indonesian rainforest where her studies focus on the orangutan and its habitat, she has inspired and trained student scientists from around the world. Through her lectures, articles and documentaries she has helped educate the public about conservation issues and drawn attention to the alarming problem of the illegal trade in exotic animals.
