A key figure at C-I-L Inc., in the Canadian Manufacturers' Assocation and on the Hydrogen Industry Council, he has worked diligently for the advancement of Canadian industry. He has also displayed great dedication to medical research and the arts as founding president of the Durand Foundation and as an administrator of Montreal's Museum of Fine Arts.

He is a dynamic businessman with immense human qualities. He has always been very involved in many associations, and his contributions, such as chair and administrator of the Quebec Blue Cross and national administrator and Quebec representative of the Alliance of Manufacturers & Exporters of Canada, have been decisive in several cases. Equally of note are his dedication to the arts, his generous support for medical research and his participation in the Canadian Forces Liaison Council. Co-founder of Fibrox Technologies Limited, he has also worked toward advancing Canadian technology. This is a promotion within the Order.

Professor Emeritus of the University of Western Ontario's Department of Microbiology and Immunology, he is an internationally respected bacterial anatomist. His appointments as a trustee of the Bergey's Manual Trust and as editor of the International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology and the Canadian Journal of Microbiology are indicative of the esteem in which he is held by the scientific community. Involved in his community, he has been an avid patron of the performing arts, serving in various capacities on many committees.
