One of the first Canadians formally trained in heritage preservation, he is a staunch promoter of protecting and enhancing our natural, built and ethno cultural resources. As Executive Director of The Heritage Canada Foundation, he instigated the Main Street Program to preserve the face of small town Canada. Thanks to his insight and expertise, this initiative has revitalized the traditional centres of more than seventy communities.
