  A dynamic business leader in western Canada, he has also had the rare distinction of having served as a member of three levels of government. He has been active in a host of community organizations, most recently as Chief of Protocol at the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics and is current Executive Member of the Organizing Committee of the 1989 World Energy Congress.

  Arthur Smith has dedicated his life to improving his community, province and country. A respected businessman, he served as founding co-chairman of the Calgary and Alberta Economic Development authorities. As well, both the federal and provincial governments have called upon his expertise in matters related to financial issues. He also lends his insight and ingenuity to several organizations, including the University of Calgary 's Centre for Innovative Technology and the Centre for Military and Strategic Studies. A man of action and immense caring, he led the establishment of the Calgary Homeless Foundation. This is a promotion within the Order.
