An active member of a variety of social welfare organizations in the Winnipeg area for most of her adult life, she was particularly well-known as President of the Manitoba Branch of the Consumers Association of Canada. She recently retired from the position of Chancellor of the University of Manitoba after transforming the office by giving it a new function and visibility within the university.
