The first woman appointed a professor at the University of Guelph's Ontario Veterinary College, Parvathi Basrur is an international authority on animal genetics. Through her work with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the International Research and Development Research Centre (IDRC), she has helped breeders around the world improve their livestock's milk- and meat-producing capabilities. A member of the Board of the Canadian Executive Service Organization (CESO), she has shared her knowledge with researchers and farmers in developing countries to find solutions to fertility-related reproductive problems. Now retired, she continues to guide and champion others who follow in her path.
