Deeply committed to his patients and to his students, Harry Oxorn has been a role model and inspiration for young doctors. An exemplary physician, he headed the departments of obstetrics and gynaecology at the Reddy Memorial and the Ottawa Civic hospitals. Now professor emeritus at the University of Ottawa, he also taught at McGill University and Hong Kong University. His textbook Human Labour and Birth, first published in 1964, is still considered one of the most comprehensive books of its kind. In 1994, he received the President's Award from the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada for his outstanding contribution to his profession.
