A Fredericton surgeon for forty years, he led the province's fight against poliomyeletis, establishing a polio hospital. To promote better health services in general he was the force behind the building of a regional hospital and, as a provincial cabinet member, he formed and led a committee that has had success in combating alcoholism and drug dependency.
