Now a medical student at the University of B.C. and retired from active competition, he rose to prominence in his sport of kayak racing at the 1976 Olympics and went on to win numerous national and international competitions. He capped his career by teaming up with Alwyn Morris to win a gold medal in the 1000-metre kayak pairs and a bronze in the 500-metre pairs at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
