A specialist in internal medicine, he became Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal, then Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sherbrooke. His talent as an administrator led him to Ottawa where he served as Deputy Minister of Health before assuming equally important positions in the Ministry of State for Science and Technology and Treasury Board. A third career awaited him at Canadian National, where he was appointed Chairman, Chief Executive Officer in 1982. (This is a promotion within the Order).
