Despite being born blind, Mary Munn finished school in competition with sighted people. She went on to study music in Canada and abroad, made her debut in London and toured North America and Europe as a concert pianist. During the Second World War, she worked with the women's ambulance service in Victoria and later, in London, as a staff pianist with the B.B.C. Her later career as a principal of the Calgary Conservatory of Music was crowned with the earning of a doctorate in music.
