After studying at the University of British Columbia and in the United States he became head of Physical Education at UBC. In 1936, while still a student, he was a member of the Canadian Olympic Basketball Team and has strongly supported athletics ever since. Manager of the Canadian Olympic Track and Field team at the Melbourne Olympics of 1956, he is now honorary vice-president of the Commonwealth Games Association of Canada.
