The career of this leading seed-grower has evolved consistently since his boyhood, when he began judging forthe Junior Farmers' Club. As a young man he established seed-cleaning and fertilizer-blending plants and woninternational prizes for seed grain. Still later he became a leader in agricultural societies and education. Service tohis community led him to the wardenship of Northumberland and Durham counties and to his present post ofmayor of Newcastle.
