Originally a teacher, she pioneered many new programmes in British Columbia schools then led the movement which resulted in the enactment of B.C.'s Equal Pay Act of 1953. Active in women's rights at the provincial and national level for many years, she was named the first Honorary Member of the Human Rights Institute of Canada in 1985.
