Patricia Aldana is a pivotal figure in children's publishing. Founder and publisher of Groundwood Books, she has mentored many emerging writers, including First Nations authors and recent immigrants. She has also volunteered in Canada and internationally in establishing policy that encourages reading and the publication of children's books everywhere in the world, including countries affected by war. She has served in numerous pro bono positions, and is the second Canadian president of the International Board on Books for Young People, a position she held for two terms.
