Cosmologist James Peebles is the founder of the modern picture of the universe. Professor emeritus and the Albert Einstein Professor of Science at Princeton University, he has made groundbreaking discoveries on the evolution of the cosmos. Throughout his illustrious 60-year-long career, he has elaborated several key concepts now used on a daily basis, notably with regards to the theory of cosmic structure formation and the existence of dark matter. Awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Physics, he deservedly joined the select group of fellow Canadian recipients, a testament to his far-reaching contributions.
