Julia Cruikshank is a path-breaking scholar. An anthropologist and professor at the University of British Columbia, she has elicited a deeper awareness of the importance of oral dialogue in mainstream historical discourse. While living for more than a decade in Yukon, she documented the oral history and storytelling traditions of the Athapaskan and Tlingit peoples.
