From July 2020 to November 2022, in his capacity as a signals intelligence specialist, Sailor 1st Class McDermand demonstrated outstanding work ethic, innovation and dedication to the Canadian Armed Forces. He led the development and enhancement of a vital Canadian signals intelligence tool that is now relied upon by Canada and the Five Eyes intelligence community to provide time-sensitive critical indications and threat warnings in support of continental defence and operations. Sailor 1st Class McDermand’s creativity and technical expertise brought great credit to Canada.
