As unit chief petty officer at Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Scott from July 2017 to April 2019, Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Coates built exceptional morale and esprit de corps within the mixed unit of 1 000 civilian and military personnel. His extraordinary efforts, compassion and leadership were rewarded with steady and continuing improvement in attitude and productivity. His support of this diverse unit, consistent with the Strong, Secure, Engaged policy, directly resulted in increased operational output to ships deployed on Operation REASSURANCE.
