Inspired by the plight of family members who have succumbed to cancer, Kappy Flanders has devoted herself to the evolution of palliative care in Canada through her philanthropic and voluntary activities. In 1994, she was the driving force behind the establishment of the Council on Palliative Care, a non-governmental organization which promotes a standardized palliative care system across the country and emphasizes the role that communities play in meeting the needs of patients. A catalyst for action, Ms. Flanders has gone to great lengths to champion the cause of palliative care in Canada, much to the benefit of terminally ill patients.
