An electrical and computer engineering professor at the University of Calgary, Dave Irvine-Halliday spearheaded Light Up The World, an initiative that provides electrical lighting to people in developing countries. Since its inception in 2000, the project has provided low-cost lighting to more than 4 000 homes in dozens of remote villages around the world. Through this inspirational undertaking, Professor Irvine-Halliday has enhanced the health and safety of many communities, fostered local education, developed an economic infrastructure and protected the environment.
