Serving with CARE Canada's mission in Africa in 1994, Mr. Hazleton led two large-scale regional initiatives. During the perilous times of the Rwanda war, he provided emergency relief assistance throughout the exodus of over a million refugees from Rwanda to Tanzania. Mr. Hazleton then returned to Zaire where he organized CARE Canada's response to the refugee plight in Goma and Bukavu, overseeing the building of camps and negotiating with the local Zairean authorities to obtain basic security and services for the refugees.
