    After immigrating to Montreal in 1984, Mr. Simon devoted his time and efforts to the social justice and human rights of individuals with AIDS and HIV. In 1991, this former academic co-founded and became director of Maison Plein Coeur, a community-based drop-in centre with home-care service whose aim is to sustain the autonomy of those living with AIDS and HIV, often in isolation. Mr. Simon's compassion and dedication, in addition to his outstanding contribution, have permitted many sufferers to live - and die with dignity.
