Jim Hayhurst Sr. co-founded Trails Youth Initiatives, a non-profit, outdoor-based program that supports marginalized youth by teaching them confidence-building skills, promoting mental and physical health, and preventing destructive behaviours and lifestyles. He led the four-year, year-round program to stable funding and, with a 90 per cent retention rate, the program has successfully guided many students in becoming contributing members of their communities.
