In 1988, Sister Andrée Ménard founded PROMIS, a multicultural and community organization in the Côte-des-Neiges area of Montreal that assists new arrivals and those most in need. Each year, the organization provides assistance to some 10,000 refugees and immigrants from about one hundred countries, through emergency food services, help in finding accommodation, education and facilitation. Through her work, Sister Ménard, a committed woman dedicated to the cause of society’s most disadvantaged members, has helped numerous families integrate into and adapt to Quebec society, and has been active in promoting social justice and human rights.
