    The late Anne Pearson founded the African Children’s Book Box Society to provide culturally relevant books for schools in Kenya. She and her lifelong friend Ruth James helped students learn about their culture through literature, and extended the society’s reach to Tanzania. They also spearheaded infrastructure projects such as libraries, classrooms and a health clinic. Their dedicated efforts led to profound change in several East African communities.
