Robert Banno is the visionary behind the creation of Nikkei Place, a vibrant community hub in Burnaby, British Columbia, comprising the National Nikkei Museum and Cultural Centre, an assisted-living seniors’ residence, and subsidized housing units. As its founding president, he led fundraising campaigns, marshalled support and provided leadership, all with the goal of uniting the Japanese Canadian community and making Nikkei Place a landmark cultural institution in Canada and internationally.
