On March 31, 2013, Adam Shaw rescued two young girls who had fallen into the icy North Saskatchewan River while tobogganing in Edmonton, Alberta. Mr. Shaw managed to pull one of the sisters out, but fell into the water himself while trying to reach the second girl. Safely back onto the ice, Mr. Shaw got his dog to swim out to the girl, who grabbed onto the leash. Mr. Shaw then coaxed the dog to swim towards him, until he was close enough to pull them both to safety.
