On February 27, 2008, Jeff McCarthy risked his life to rescue a woman who was trapped inside her vehicle following a collision near Balgonie, Saskatchewan. Having witnessed an accident between a semi-tractor trailer and a car, Mr. McCarthy ran across the highway through thick fog to help. He reached in through the passenger side door of the car and pulled the injured driver out. Without concern for his own life, Mr. McCarthy moved the victim towards his vehicle on the other side of the highway. As he did so, another vehicle hit the woman's car where Mr. McCarthy had just been standing. The woman was then brought to the hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.
