Medal of Bravery
On February 11, 2008, Shawn Doyle, James Haden and Gerard Robineau risked their lives to evacuate an injured co-worker at a rail yard, in Concord, Ontario. The victim had been transferring the contents of a pressurized rail car when a valve exploded, sending a geyser of caustic sodium hydroxide several metres in all directions. After calling for help on his radio, the victim took refuge in a nearby safety shower. Unable to shut down the flow or depressurize the rail car, the three rescuers managed to reach the victim and transport him to a safer area. All four men were treated for second-degree burns to their faces and hands.
