On December 18, 1998, Glen Nikkel confronted two pit-bulls who savagely attacked two women in Surrey, British Columbia. The pit-bulls had inexplicably pounced on one woman and when Mr. Nikkel and his wife drove by they saw the animals biting their victim and dragging her into a yard. As Mr. Nikkel raced to help the severely injured woman, the dogs ran off but soon attacked another woman across the street. Mr. Nikkel immediately rushed over and whipped them with an extension cord until they turned on him. He managed to keep them at bay for a short time but the frenzied animals suddenly bolted back to the first victim and resumed their vicious attack on her. Again, Mr. Nikkel managed to beat them off and the dogs were contained by motorists until help arrived.
