On February 19, 1999, in Hébertville, Quebec, Frédéric Tremblay helped save his father who had been buried in a waste pit while he was clearing the waste disposal system of a farm. When he saw that his father's power shovel had sunk into a four-metre-deep pit, Mr. Tremblay did not hesitate to jump into the waste. He somehow covered the six metres that separated him from the vehicle, of which the only part still visible was a corner of the cab. Aware that the power shovel could tip over or sink at any moment, he tried to break the windshield with his fists, but did not succeed. Pulling with all his might, he managed to pull off part of the removable roof, reach inside, and open it enough to free his father. The two men then reached the edge with the help of a rope thrown to them.
